Teacher finds gun in Florida kindergartner's backpack
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A teacher found a gun inside a kindergartner's backpack at a Florida charter school, but it is unclear how it got there.
Somerset Academy Lakes Elementary Principal Clint Duvo said in a statement posted on the West Palm Beach school's Facebook page that the gun was found Thursday morning and no students were endangered. He wrote that the child didn't know how the gun got into the backpack and had no intention of bringing it to school.
Duvo's statement did not say whether the gun was loaded. School and Palm Beach County sheriff's officials did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday. Duvo said law enforcement is investigating.
The Palm Beach Post says the school opened in 2016. Somerset Academy is a large charter school company with sites throughout Florida.
