Isaiah Wynn knows one of the most basic facts of football: it helps to play alongside the best players. He played on a loaded Georgia team that nearly won the National Championship last season, and as he transitions into the NFL, he would obviously be best served by finding a similarly talented roster to help in his long term development as a player.
That roster, particularly in Wynn's position group, exists in the NFL. It is the Dallas Cowboys. With three superstars on the offensive line but little depth behind them, Wynn sees an opportunity to put himself in the best position possible to succeed with the Cowboys if that is where he is taken. According to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News, Wynn had an official visit with the team at the NFL Draft Combine and had this to say about the stars on the Cowboys' line.
"I think it would be good," Wynn said of playing alongside Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Martin and Collins. "It's always good to play with those types of guys who have that type of experience under their belt and are doing well for where they are at.
"They're just nasty. They all work together as one unit. They all get the job done."
Wynn fits the profile of the linemen that the Cowboys have taken in the past. They are picking No. 19 in this year's first round, in a similar range to Martin (No. 16) and Smith (No. 9). As Smith's absence proved last season, the Cowboys need more than three players to have a consistently dominant offensive line. While they have greater needs with their first pick, selecting an offensive lineman isn't totally out of the realm of possibility. It's just a matter of finding the right one.
Wynn is one of the highest regarded linemen in the draft. The Cowboys got it right with three other linemen in that area of the draft. Why not swing for No. 4?
